Deep Roots, Strong Ties: A Day of Indigenous Excellence will be held on Nov. 6, 2023. Students will hear motivational speakers Amber Midthunder, an Indigenous actress known for her role in the FX series Legion and who also starred as Naru in the 2022 film, Prey as well as Angelique Midthunder, the Emmy-nominated casting director, Midthunder Casting, LLC and mother of Amber Midthunder. You will enjoy a cultural celebration and have the opportunity to have social and academic networking. Additionally, the program will provide college admission prep sessions that will assist you in the admission process at most colleges you may apply for. Lunch will be provided. Come join us for a fun, informative day of Indigenous Excellence!

This service will provide American Indian Students with Technology Materials that are needed for educational purposes, college classes, CCP classes at RCC, camp participation and other programs offered through this grant. These materials may include but are not limited to the following: Hardware (computer, headphones and/or microphones) required/needed for academics, certification courses, classes or programs student is enrolled in Software (computer programs) required/needed for academics, certification courses, classes or programs student is enrolled in Materials that are necessary for the participation and success in courses, camps and programs. Educational materials will remain within the budget allotted by the program and the materials should match those typically used or provided by the school system.

The tribal staff will approve payment and send payment to FTCC. The student will receive an email or text when payment is approved. IMPORTANT: Project IndigeCHOICE may only pay for textbook(s) for Native students enrolled in CCP courses in Cumberland County Schools or Native students from Hoke, Robeson, or Scotland counties who are enrolled in CCP courses in a private school or being homeschooled. Documentation of enrollment will be required for participation in textbook services.

This service is designed to provide students with a culturally relevant Tutoring Program. Tutoring services will be provided to students in grades K-12th within the Lumbee Tribal Service Area. Students may request assistance in Math, Reading, or Science. Project IndigeCHOICE will provide seven tutoring sessions throughout the grant year (10.01.2023 - 09.30.2024). According to grant guidelines, parents may choose ONLY one tutoring session per grant year. Please choose the ONE session that you think would best fit the needs of your child.

Creating Helpful Options to Integrate Culture and Education

Project IndigeCoice is a five-year United States Department of Education grant, awarded to the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina to serve American Indian students. The Assessing Choices in Education (ACE) grant was designed to allow the Lumbee Tribe to set up a variety of education options and services from which parents or students can choose. The grant will begin providing services and programs October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2025.
